What Really Happened to Tatyanna Harrison?

What Really Happened to Tatyanna Harrison?

Twenty-year-old Tatyanna Harrison was last seen at the Grand Union Pub in Vancouver on April 22, 2022. Her mother Natasha Harrison desperately searched the Downtown Eastside for months, but couldn’t find her daughter.

Later that year in August, police arrived at Natasha’s house to give her the worst news: Tatyanna’s body had been found on a yacht in Richmond.

As she learned more disturbing details, Natasha kept seeking one vital piece of information — definitive evidence that her daughter hadn’t been assaulted and killed.

But that information was not forthcoming, as Natasha told a coroner’s inquest held in the summer of 2026.

Tatyanna Harrison’s case, alongside those of Noelle O’Soup and Chelsea Poorman, raised questions about the quality of police and other investigations into missing Indigenous women and youth. Over the past 13 years, a provincial and then a national inquiry on murdered and missing Indigenous women have led to dozens of recommendations, including changes to how police respond to reports of missing Indigenous people.

But loved ones, including Natasha Harrison, say they experienced delays, indifference and baffling decisions as police handled their missing persons cases.

The coroner’s inquest into Tatyanna’s death was supposed to provide answers. Instead, it mostly raised more troubling questions — and gave Natasha a fresh shock when she learned at the inquest that her daughter’s body had been buried without her knowledge or consent.
